Rainbow cupcakes and Portland

A while back my boyfriend and I made some uber bright cupcakes, I got the recipe from one of the blogs I follow which is Our Best Bites. The ones we made obviously aren't as picture perfect as Our Best Bites but it was still way fun to make and the outcome is so pretty! I love how bright the colors are. Heres a pic of some right out of the oven and then a rasta inspired one
;-)

Towards the end of April my boyfriend and I decided to take an out-of-the-blue overnight trip to Portland. We left on an early Saturday morning and went home late afternoon that Sunday. We had a lot of fun and I picked out the cutest hotel to stay in, Hotel Monaco. We booked the Grand Suite which was perfect. It was so big and they set it up so cute for us with rose petals and a teddy bear on the bed and complimentary champagne on ice and a lovely complimentary thing of bath salts that smell so good and make frothy suds, just awesome, ooh and Aveda & L'Occitane en Provence bath products . Anyway if you're looking for an affordable super cute fun hotel, look at Kimpton hotels esp. Hotel Monaco, they have one in Seattle, Chicago and else where too!

glitz galore

A few weeks ago I made a "snowglobe", I had gotten the idea online somewhere from a Martha Stewart DYI guide thing. I got the jar from an antique store and the flower I bought at a local pet store (it's supposed to be used in a fish tank) and then the little faerie I got at Archie McPhees in Seattle. I love Archie McPhees, they have THE most random things there, it's so fun. I got a few of the little faeries, they glow in the dark and come in different colors. The other ones I'll probably use in other "snowglobes" I plan on making. I also bought a bunch of fishies and seahorsies and real seashells for my next one. It's such a fun project but you do need patients. Anyway when you turn this upside down or shake it, all of the fabulous glitter floats and swirls around and looks so magical! I just love it and can't wait to make more.

And today, I got through my first week at my new job and decided to celebrate a little by dazzling up my nails. I love them! The place I went to has like 50 different glitters to choose from it was so hard to pick one. I'm so stoked to have this new job too because I was at my last company for 5 yrs (I started when I was only 18, I'm 23 now) and was working almost 6 days a week and now I only have to work 4 days a week but put in my 40hrs by working 10 hr days. It's waaay better because now I have a 3 day weekend every week!

The wonderful world of Antiques

I love to Antique, I really try to do it at least once every two months, sometimes I can't resist and go two times in one month but I can get out of control and spend waaay to much. Anyway here are some sweet things I found for inspiration and then some that I just had to buy! The earrings, the little pink dish, the little blue dish, the fabulous OH! picture, and the super cute vintage Butterick pattern are the treasures I took home with me.

Crystal Head Vodka

A couple of weeks ago I was up at like 4:30 in the morning getting ready for work and I had the news on to see what the weather would be like that day, and I wasn't really paying any attention until I heard them mention Dan Aykroyd being in Seattle. I've been a fan of his since I was little watching his movies (Blues Brothers, Ghost Busters, The Great Outdoors, My Girl (1&2), Tommy Boy, among many others) and they said he'd be promoting his new vodka. He owns most of Patron (I don't know if it's just in Canada or in gerneral) and lots of Wineries so I thought this was cool. It comes in this awesome glass bottle in the shape of a skull which is just rad. The story behind it is pretty cool, you can check it out on the website.

So anyway, I took the day off of work so I could go to this signing. I got down to U-Village in Seattle within plenty of time to be close to the front of the line, I think I was only 40 people deep and the line grew from that to like well over 150 I bet. Anyway I was standing in line for like an hour and a half when they finally started to let us in. It was a little frustrating how they had us do it because you had to take the bottle out of the box and give them it ahead of time and show your receipt etc. And when I finally got to him I was so nervous and excited all I could say was Hello and "can I take a picture with you?" and he smiled at me and shook my hand and I got my picture and that was that. It went by way too fast, it made me sad because I wanted him to write something special on my bottle but they were having him sign bottle after bottle so fast that I felt too overwhelmed to ask ha ha. Oh well, the fact that I got to meet a classic comedian/actor such as him was good enough for me. I'm sure you'll see people selling signed bottles on ebay but I would never do it. It has too much value to me. Call me a dork but I really like the guy, like I said he's a classic.

something new

I'm sort of intimidated about this whole blogging thing but since I am a fan of others I thought I might give it a go, even though I highly doubt anyone will follow, maybe over time as I get more confident :) Anyway here goes...

Its not new that I am obsessed with decorating rooms, the only thing that sucks is I don't have my own place yet so I am succumbed to only having 2 rooms to take over which is my bedroom and my bathroom. I can't wait for the day that I have an entire house or even cute little condo to do WHATEVER to. Until then I will have to dream thru pictures and imagine what I will fill my nest with.
This is only part of my bedroom and I've recently filled my homemade 3-tiered dessert tray (on the right) with my entire collection of nail polish (one of the many things I obsessively collect)
